- Public Hire
Vehicles which are covered by this type of licence are allowed to use the local hackney ranks and can be hailed at the roadside.
- Private Hire
Vehicles which are covered by this licence can not be hailed at the roadside but will need to be pre-booked.
- Chauffeur
Executive vehicles used for corporate work which would have been pre-booked.

- Public Liability

Whether you are a taxi driver with a single vehicle or a taxi operator with a fleet of vehicles, local authorities are requesting cover in respect of public liability. This especially applies if you have school or social service contracts. Public liability provides cover in respect of Third Party Property Damage and death or bodily injury, examples of such claims are:-

  • Driver carries passengers’ purchases and drops them causing damage.
  • A child is dropped off in the course of a school contract and is subsequently injured before reaching the school.
  • If you employ staff including drivers or escorts them Employers Liability is required and is also a legal requirement.
- Employers liability
Did you know that most employers are required by the law to insure against liability for injury or disease to their employees arising out of their employment.The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) enforces the law on employer’s liability insurance and HSE inspectors can check that you have employers’ liability insurance with an approved insurer for at least £5 million, the standard limit is £10 million. They may ask to see your certificate of insurance and other insurance details. You can be fined up to £2500 for any day which you are without suitable insurance. If you do not display the certificate of insurance or you refuse to make it available to HSE inspectors when they ask, you can be fined up to £1000. - Excess Protection

Following a valid claim under your motor insurance policy the Insurer will pay your insurance excess up to the limit of the indemnity you have chosen.

- Keep Earning Policy

The Insurer will pay a benefit of up to £45 per day towards the costs of either replacement hire vehicle (provided by the insurer) or loss of earnings. The benefit is payable in the event of the insured's vehicle being deemed unroadworthy following a road traffic accident (by an identifiable party verified by a valid registration number and driver name and contact details) or theft notified to the Police and a crime reference obtained. (Includes attempted theft but excludes windscreen damage). The insurer will pay the benefit until the insured's vehicle has been made roadworthy or for a maximum period of 7 days whichever occurs soonest.
