Financial Services Authority (FSA)
From 14 January 2005, the FSA became responsible for regulating general insurance business. The FSA is an independent non-governmental body, given statutory powers by the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS)
The FOS is an independent service set up to help settle individual disputes between consumers and financial firms. They can consider complaints on a range of matters, insurance, mortgages, savings and investments. The service is free but you must firstly complain to the company you are dealing with before the FOS will look into the case.

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)
The FSCS is the UK’s statutory fund of last resort for the customers of financial firms. The FSCS can pay compensation to consumers if a company is unable, likely be unable to pay claims made against it. This usually happens if a company becomes insolvent. The FSCS is an independent body, it is free to consumers and their website provides information about their work, how they are funded and how a consumer can make a claim.
